Wocket

Text Message Consent

Effective September 2026

Wocket is a voice device used primarily by older adults. One of its features lets the person using the device ask, out loud, for a family member to be reached — for example, "Wocket, call my daughter." When that happens, Wocket places a phone call and may send a text message to that designated contact from (877) 737-3413.

This page explains exactly how a contact consents to those messages, what they receive, and how they stop.

How a contact opts in

No one receives a message from Wocket until they have personally confirmed, by text, that they want to. The steps are:

  1. The account holder adds a family contact during setup and enters that person's mobile number. At that moment the account holder is shown, on screen, what the contact will receive and is asked to confirm they have permission to add them.
  2. Wocket sends that number a single confirmation message, described below, identifying Wocket by name and stating what the messages are for.
  3. The contact replies YES. Only then are they added as an active contact.
  4. If they reply STOP, or do not reply at all, no further message is ever sent to that number and the contact is not activated.
The one confirmation message a new contact receives:

"Wocket here. Mary added you as her contact so Wocket can text or call you when she asks it to reach you. Reply YES to confirm, STOP to decline. Msg & data rates may apply."

Numbers are entered by the account holder during setup and nowhere else. Contacts are never imported from purchased lists, uploaded address books, data brokers, or any third-party source. A record of each contact's confirmation, including the date and the number it came from, is kept on the account.

What an active contact receives

Once confirmed, a contact receives messages only when the device's user asks Wocket to reach them, or in connection with safety features the family has chosen to enable. Frequency varies with use and is typically a few messages per month.

A typical message:

"This is Mary's Wocket. Mary asked me to reach you — please give her a call when you can. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out."

What we never send

Opting out and getting help

Any recipient can reply STOP to any message to opt out immediately and permanently, or HELP for assistance and our contact details. Opting out takes effect at once and requires no explanation. A contact can also be removed at any time by the account holder, or by writing to hello@wocket.co, and we confirm when it is done. Message and data rates may apply.

What Wocket is not

Wocket is a companion device, not a medical alert system, and it does not contact emergency services. Reaching a family contact depends on power, connectivity, and that person being reachable, so it should not be relied on in an emergency.

Privacy

Contact names and phone numbers are used solely to deliver the calls and messages described here. They are never sold, and never shared with third parties for marketing. See our privacy policy for how we handle information more broadly.
